DOWN 5 RUNS, METS RALLY FOR WIN
CARTER DEBUTS BEAUTIFULLY AS METS COMPLETE FIRST LATE COMEBACK OF THE YEAR AND REGAIN TIE FOR SECOND
Things we're looking ugly for New York Tuesday night as the Mets found themselves on the verge of losing another series to the Washington Nationals and falling deeper into third place in the NL East. John Niese was pulled in the 4th inning after giving up 6 runs to the Washington. Mets left a franchise high 28 runners on base, most ever in a 9 inning game. Ike Davis was retired four times and left 8 runners on base in the process. It looked like another same old loss that has defined the last week of Mets games. It was 6-1 going into the bottom of the eighth. The Mets had never won a game they trailed after 7 innings. In this situation they were 0-12. But, the Amazin's broke expectations. pulled together something pretty extraordinary.
The bullpen gave up just three hits in 4 2/3 scoreless innings and the Mets rallied for six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a K-Rod saved 8-6 win for the boys in Orange and Blue. Some nine hours after Chris Carter reached Citi Field on Tuesday afternoon, he energized it, providing the telling hit in the Mets' most productive inning of the season and their rousing come-from-behind victory against the Nationals. Carter delivered a pinch-hit double in his first at-bat with the Mets in the eighth to produce the go-ahead run in what became an unlikely 8-6 victory. Barajas homered and Francouer drove in 2. Ike Davis made a beautiful game-ending catch. Full Details.
