The Least You Should Know:
- R.A. Dickey started for the Mets, and he struggled, allowing three runs on six hits, while walking five batters in five innings.
- The Mets had just seven hits on the day, and could not take advantage of most of their scoring opportunities going 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position.
- D.J. Carrasco threw two innings of scoreless relief, but Tim Byrdak and Bobby Parnell combined to allow three runs in the eighth inning.
- The Mets walked nine batters today.
Quick Post Game Reaction:
Dickey didn’t have much command of the knuckleball today. He missed consistently down with that pitch, but he did hang in and got out of a couple of jams. He certainly deserved better than what he got, considering the Mets squandered so many scoring opportunities.
To me, the most frustrating at bat came in the bottom of the seventh inning, with runners at second and third and one out, and Jose Reyes coming up, and striking out. He didn’t demonstrate much patience in that at bat, and was disposed of rather quickly.
Of course, Parnell was completely ineffective, and largely contributed to the Nationals getting three runs in the eighth inning.
Up Next:
The Mets will look to even their series against the Nationals tomorrow night at Citi Field, with Tom Gorzellany facing Chris Capuano. Game time is 7:10 pm.
