New York Times Pregame Report

Welcome to opening day, a day when all baseball fans are hopeful, even Mets fans! Well, maybe not all Mets fans. Feel free to tell us your hopes and fears for the new season in the comments section below. It's a beautiful day, hardly a cloud in the sky, but a little cool in Flushing, with temperatures hovering around 50 degrees.
There are plenty of things to watch for in today's game against the Atlanta Braves. I'll be watching for:
• How Johan Santana looks in his first start since September 2010 (obviously).
• How the shorter dimensions in the outfield at Citi Field affect the game.
• The effectiveness of the Mets' defense, with Lucas Duda in right, Daniel Murphy at second, and Ruben Tejada at short. Not a lot of experience at their respective positions.
• How many Mets will have to leave due to injury? (just kidding).
There's plenty of storylines to be developed as we kick off the 2012 season. What will you be watching for today? Tell us.
