The Mets are 0–5 in the rubber game of a series this season, including yesterday’s loss to the Reds. They were 6–11 in rubber games last season. …uh, yeah, that’s not very good… actually, this is a trend that started in September 2008, when, though they actually did pretty well in three-game series through much of the summer, they lost the last four rubber games they played as well, any one of which might have come in handy… …it’s obvious, but, basically, if a team splits all of its four– and two-game series, yet wins all of its three-game sets, the team will win around 90 games… so, it is frustrating when the Mets repeatedly drop series like this, one game here, one game there, as it all adds up… …what’s more, from a psychological point of view, it makes me wonder if these guys have some sort of problem with dropping the hammer, and putting teams away… i mean, going back to the last pitch on 2006, it seems to be a recurring theme… The responses I got on Twitter ranged from it being dumb luck and only a small sample size, to it being about character to Jerry Manuel’s lineup choices during day games after night games.
