The Mets defeated the Marlins by the score of 9-2 today in Miami. The Marlins committed 3 errors and gave up five unearned runs, with blunders from nearly every infielder.
The Least You Should Know:
- R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and while he struggled a bit with his control, found his way through six innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits, throwing 69 of his 106 pitches for strikes.
- Willie Harris put the Mets on the board early with a two run home run in the first inning, and Ike Davis hit his first home run on the year in the third inning.
- The Mets knocked Javier Vazquez out of the game in the third inning, as he allowed seven runs, five of which were earned.
- The Mets scored five unearned runs today, as the Marlins defense was awful all day long.
- Chris Capuano made a relief appearance, and allowed one run after retiring the first two batters he faced in the 7th inning, and D.J. Carrasco had to bail him out with the bases loaded.
Dickey picked up right where he left off last year. He walked three batters, and fell behind a lot of the hitters, but his ability to change speeds on each of his pitches helped him manage when he didn’t have his best stuff.
Willie Harris had four RBI this weekend – it’s great to see him helping the Mets, and not killing them.
It took the Mets until late August to win their first road series in 2010 – this year, they do it on the first weekend. That feels very good. (From MetsBlog.com)
