Josh Thole made a base running blunder that gave the Marlins momentum. Ricky Nolasco threw behind him after Thole over-ran first and tripped trying franticly to get back.
Thole's 9th inning RBI single gave the Mets a late 3-2 lead. Josh went 3 for 4 but did not try to do too much. The story of redemption, however, does not end there.
David Wright, who made a ugly error in the 7th inning, hit the go-ahead run in the 10th inning, giving the Mets a 3-2 lead.
K-Rod, facing the heart of the Marlin's order, stumbled. While he gave up no runs in Spring Training, he was far from stellar, loading the bases and nearly losing the game in the 10th. The pitching heroes were John Niese who threw 7 innings (6 of which he gave up no runs and dominated the order) and Bobby Parnell, who threw a stellar 8th inning.
Perhaps the biggest redemption story comes from Terry Collins, whose detailed moves gave the Mets their first win of 2011. After losing Game 1, Game 2 felt like redemption. And redemption it was.
